Key responsibilities of a barista:

Customer interaction:
Greet customers warmly and take orders.

Recommend drinks based on customer preferences.

Answer questions about menu items and ingredients.

Upsell special items or promotions
Beverage preparation:
Grind fresh coffee beans

Operate espresso machines and other brewing equipment

Prepare a variety of coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, cold brew, etc

Ensure consistency in drink quality
Operational tasks:
Maintain cleanliness of the coffee bar and equipment

Stock and replenish supplies

Handle cash and credit card transactions

Adhere to food safety and sanitation protocols
Knowledge and skills:
Understanding of different coffee brewing methods

Knowledge of coffee origins and flavor profiles

Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Excellent customer service skills

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

Depending on the establishment, a barista may also be responsible for:

Training new baristas, Inventory management, Marketing and promoting special drinks, Managing a drive-thru window, and Providing food service alongside coffee drinks.
